These terms cover your use of Careering and anything you buy from us: coaching, courses, event tickets and gifts. We have tried to write them in plain English - if anything is unclear, ask us at support@careering.com.
Careering is run by Careering Ltd (company number 17148691), registered in England and Wales at Harborough House, 1-3 London Road, Leicester, United Kingdom, LE2 5DL. In these terms, "we", "us" and "Careering" mean Careering Ltd, and "you" means the person using Careering or buying from us.
Our customer service team is at support@careering.com. Write to us there about a booking, a session, a payment, a refund or a complaint. For anything about your personal data, write to privacy@careering.com.
These terms apply when you use Careering and when you buy something from us. Today you can buy:
You may also be given a gift code, which gives you coaching at no charge. Gift codes are covered below too.
Cohort courses and Design for Tuesdays, our workshop for teams, are not covered by these terms. Joining a cohort waitlist is free and commits you to nothing. If we offer you a place on a cohort, or run a workshop for your company, we will set out the terms that apply before you pay.
Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
Whatever you buy on Careering, you buy it from Careering Ltd and you pay Careering Ltd. That includes coaching: your contract for a chemistry call or a block of sessions is with us, not with the coach.
The coaches on Careering are independent professionals, not our employees. Every coach has been through our vetting before their profile goes live: we read their application, take a reference and hold a vetting call. You always pay Careering, never a coach directly, and we pay coaches for the sessions they run.
Coaches set their own prices for coaching. Every price we show you includes VAT at 20%. The price of a chemistry call, a block or a course is shown, including VAT, before you pay, and the total at checkout, including VAT, is what you pay.
This matters, so it is near the top rather than buried at the bottom.
Coaching and our courses are there to help you think about your working life and decide what you want next. They are not professional advice - not legal, financial, medical, psychological or employment advice - and they are not a substitute for it. Coaching is not therapy or counselling. Decisions about your career, your money and your health are yours, and you should take proper professional advice where the stakes warrant it.
If you are struggling with your mental health, please speak to a doctor or a qualified professional.
You pay in full when you book, through Stripe's secure checkout, in pounds sterling. A chemistry call, a block of sessions or a course is paid for at checkout. Sessions you then book from a block have nothing more to pay.
For now, Careering is available to customers in the UK. You need a UK-issued card to pay. If a payment is made from outside the UK by mistake, we will refund it.
All our prices include VAT at 20%. Once our VAT registration number is issued, your receipt shows the VAT separately. If you need a VAT receipt for something you bought before then, ask us at support@careering.com.
Your card details are entered on Stripe's checkout page. We never see or store your card number.
When your payment goes through we email you: a booking confirmation for a chemistry call, a receipt for a block (with your sessions and the date to use them by), or a link to start a course. Stripe emails your payment receipt separately.
You don't need an account before you buy. When you book a coach or buy a course, we create your account for the email address you pay with.
A chemistry call is a 30-minute call with a coach, to see whether they are right for you. It costs £30 including VAT, whichever coach you choose. It is optional: if you already know who you want, you can go straight to a block.
You can have one chemistry call with each coach.
If you have had a chemistry call with a coach and then buy a block from the same coach, we take the £30 you paid for the call off the price of your first block with them, which includes VAT. This happens once per coach, and only for a call that has taken place and has not been refunded. You will see it come off at checkout.
While you pay for a chemistry call, we hold the time for you. If the time is taken before your payment reaches us, we refund you in full.
Coaching is sold in blocks of 3, 6 or 10 sessions with one coach. Every coach offers a block of 3, and some also offer blocks of 6 and 10. We don't sell single sessions, apart from the chemistry call.
A block is with one coach, for the kind of session you chose when you bought it.
You choose the time of your first session when you buy, and we book it as soon as your payment goes through. If that time is taken before then, every session stays in your block and we ask you to pick another time.
Each session in a block is a credit to spend with that coach. You book the rest of your sessions from your account, at times your coach has free, whenever suits you.
Credits last for 12 months from when you pay for the block. The date to use them by is on your receipt and in your account.
When there are three months or less to go and you still have sessions left, your account shows it, and we email you once to say how many sessions are left and the date to use them by.
Sessions still in a block after its use-by date expire. Expired sessions are not refunded.
If something serious has stopped you using your sessions, tell us. In a hard case we may choose to refund or extend unused sessions. That is at our discretion, as a goodwill gesture - it is not something you are entitled to.
If your coach's page isn't open when you want to book, email us and we will book the session for you.
You can move or cancel a session yourself, for free, up to 48 hours before it starts. Do it from Sessions in your account. You can move a session more than once, as long as it is still more than 48 hours away each time. We email you to confirm every change.
When you cancel in time:
Within 48 hours of a session, you can't move or cancel it from your account. Your coach has kept that time for you, so the payment stands, and a session from a block counts as used.
If something has come up, email us and we will talk to your coach. If your coach agrees to a new time, we will move the session. If we agree to cancel it, we will refund it in full or return the session to your block. Whether to agree is up to your coach and us.
If you miss a session without having moved or cancelled it in time, it counts as having happened: the payment stands, or the credit is used. If something stopped you joining, such as a problem with the joining link, tell us within 48 hours, as described in "If something went wrong with a session" below.
If your coach cancels, we email you straight away. A chemistry call is refunded in full, automatically. A session from a block goes back into your block. This is the same however close to the session your coach cancels.
If your coach moves a session, we email you the new time. If it doesn't suit you, you can move it again yourself while it is more than 48 hours away. If it is closer than that, email us and we will sort it out with your coach.
If your coach doesn't turn up, tell us within 48 hours and we will put it right, as described below.
If something went wrong with a session - for example your coach didn't turn up, the session was cut short, or it wasn't what you expected - email support@careering.com within 48 hours of the end of the session. Please include your coach's name, the date and time of the session, and what happened. Telling us quickly lets us look into it while it is fresh.
We will look into it, talk to your coach, and come back to you. If we agree the session wasn't right, we will put it right in one of three ways: we will rebook the session with your coach, give you the session back as a credit, or refund it.
For a concern that isn't about a particular session, email us at any time.
Asking you to tell us within 48 hours does not take away your legal rights if a session was not provided with reasonable care and skill.
A refund is of the full amount you paid, including VAT. If we refund part of what you paid, for example the unused sessions in a block, the VAT is refunded in proportion.
Refunds go back to the card you paid with. They usually take five to ten working days to reach your account, depending on your bank. If ten working days have passed and you can't see a refund, email us with the email address you paid with and the date of the session.
Sessions you have already had are not refunded. If you want to stop part-way through a block, tell us before its use-by date and we will refund the sessions you have not used yet.
Refunds for courses are covered in "Self-paced courses" below, and refunds for event tickets in "Event tickets" below.
A gift code gives you coaching at no charge: a chemistry call, one session, or a block of sessions. To use one, sign in and enter the code. Your account then shows what the gift gives you and the date to use it by.
Each gift can be claimed once per account. A code works only between the dates it is valid for and while it has claims left. We can pause a gift, and a paused code can't be claimed.
A gift for a named coach becomes a credit with that coach when you claim it. Any other gift is tied to the coach you choose when you make your first booking with it, and any sessions left in a gifted block stay with that coach. A chemistry call from a gift can't be used with a coach you have already had a chemistry call with.
Gift credits last for a set period from the day you claim the code. The period is set for each gift, between 1 and 24 months, and the date to use them by is shown in your account when you claim it. Gift credits still unused after that date expire.
Once a gift is a credit with a coach, it works like a session from a block: the same 48-hour rule for moving and cancelling applies, a session you cancel in time goes back as a credit, and a session cancelled late or missed counts as used.
A gift has no cash value. It can't be exchanged for money, and because nothing was paid for it, there is nothing to refund.
A self-paced course costs the price shown on its page, which includes VAT.
When you buy a self-paced course, such as the Career Vision Board, you can start straight away. We create your account for the email address you pay with and email you a link to sign in. Once you have bought a course, you can watch it whenever you like.
This does not affect your statutory rights.
We stand behind the Career Vision Board. Do the course properly, and if it has not helped you, we will give you your money back.
What we ask of you:
To ask, email support@careering.com from the email address you bought the course with. You can also use the "Not what you hoped for? Tell us" link at the foot of the course page when you are signed in.
A person from the Careering team reads what you send and replies. We may ask what did not work for you, because it helps us make the course better. Where you have done the course and it has not helped, we refund you in full, including VAT, back to the card you paid with, and your access to the course ends. Refunds usually take five to ten working days to reach your account, depending on your bank.
We are the ones who decide whether the course has really been done, and we look at how you went through it. This is not a way to take the course, get the value of it and then ask for the money back: skipping through the lessons to reach the end is not doing the course. We are not looking for reasons to say no, and an honest request after real work gets paid.
This does not affect your statutory rights.
We also sell tickets to one-off events, such as workshops and firesides. The price is shown before you pay, and you pay in full at checkout as described in "Paying" above. Your ticket is for the specific event you booked, at the date and time shown when you bought it.
Ticket purchases don't have a self-service cancellation from your account. If you can no longer attend, email us - we can't promise a refund, but we will look at what we can do.
If we cancel an event, or move it to a date that doesn't work for you, we will email you and refund your ticket in full.
This section only applies to events you pay for. Registering for a free event takes no payment, so there is nothing to refund.
This does not affect your statutory rights.
You need an account to book sessions and watch courses. You must be at least 18 years old.
We sign you in with a one-time code sent to your email address, so keep access to that inbox secure. You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into it.
Your email address is how you sign in, and it is the address your bookings are attached to. To change it, email us from your current address.
Give us accurate information and keep it up to date. We may suspend or close an account that is being used in breach of these terms.
If you join a waitlist, such as the waitlist for a cohort course, we use your email address to contact you about what you joined it for, for example to offer you a place.
You can unsubscribe from any email we send, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time. The Privacy Policy explains how we handle it.
These terms are for customers. Coaches who work with Careering do so under a separate agreement with us.
Applying to coach with Careering does not create a contract, guarantee a place, or oblige either of us to work together. If we ask for a referee, we will not approach them until we have spoken to you first.
Our courses, videos, worksheets, website and brand belong to us or to the people we license them from. You may use them for your own career development. Please do not copy, share, resell or redistribute them, or use them to build a competing product.
Please do not:
We work to keep Careering running, but we do not promise it will always be available or free of faults, and we may change, suspend or withdraw features.
We may need to take the service down for maintenance. We will try to do that at quiet times.
We do not limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
Subject to that, we are not liable for business losses, lost profits, lost opportunity or losses we could not reasonably have expected when you agreed these terms.
Careering is provided for personal use. If you use it for business purposes, the consumer protections in these terms do not apply to you.
You can stop using Careering and ask us to close your account at any time. The Privacy Policy explains what we keep and for how long.
We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we stop providing the service.
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Careering after that means you accept the updated terms. If you do not, you can close your account.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring proceedings in your own country's courts.
If something has gone wrong, please email support@careering.com first - we would much rather put it right directly.
